» Awareness Creation and Education for all children to enjoy the FCUBE Programme

[Target population: 2,000 non-school going children or school drop-outs]

Justification: The desire of DYF to join the Government and other agencies in ensuring that all children of school-going age [irrespective of sex] are able to access a full course of basic schooling is justified for the following reasons:

  • It has a mandate and moral right, as an NGO, to create the necessary awareness and to educate its community members in general and the youth in particular.
  • It is imperative that the youth of its immediate environ of operations benefit from such initiatives and programmes
  • Education is a basic right and an investment in our people for enhancing their knowledge, skills and attitudinal change potentials
  • Participation in national programmes enhances the image of the DYF and fulfils the Government’s desire for education for all by the 2015
  • The teeming numbers of the youth who are out of school need special attention by ways of awareness creation programmes to convince especially their parents and wards to guarantee their going to school.

Goal: The programme is aimed at reducing the number youth out-of-school to the barest minimum. It is envisaged that the efforts at eradicating illiteracy among the youth will help close the tap while mopping the floor. A successful implementation of the programme will not only fulfill DYF’s desire of providing not-for-profit service to the youth, but also ensuring that the youth of today do not become a burden for Government in terms of growing to become social misfits and miscreants for lack of schooling.

Actions to effect project: Activities to achieve the anticipated results include:

  • Baseline needs assessment of the awareness creation campaign
  • Advocacy and sensitization of parents and youth groups within target communities
  • Linkages with existing schools within target communities
  • Organization of joint fora with the  Assemblies, heads of school and parents
  • Provision of incentive packages to needed children
  • Monitoring, supervision and evaluation of programme, and follow-up initiatives

 
Project Outcomes: Anticipated results to be achieved after the implementation of the training programme include:

  • 2,000 youth out-of-school admitted back to school
  • 10 new primary schools built to support programme
  • Parents and guardians well sensitized to ensure regular attendance of classes byh their wards
  • Steering Committee made up of DYF members, parents and heads of school formed to monitor and supervise programme
  • Evaluation and reporting systems developed to enhance follow-up initiatives to keep programme on course
