Justification: The desire of DYF to join the Government and other agencies in embarking on vigorous campaign and action to eliminate malaria by fighting the breeding and spread of mosquitoes in the communities.
- It has a mandate and moral right, as an NGO, to create the necessary awareness and to help government and allied agencies to fight disease.
- It is imperative that communities benefit from such initiatives and programmes
- It is an investment in our people and productivity needs of our country
- It enhances the image of the DYF and fulfils the Government’s desire for a malaria-free environment.
Goal: The programme is aimed at eradicating mosquitoes to stop people catching malaria. A successful implementation will not only see the fulfillment of DYF’s desire of providing voluntary service to the Ga East District and the Adentan Municipal Assemblies, but also ensuring that such communities a free from mosquitoes.
Actions to effect project: Activities to achieve the anticipated results include:
- Baseline needs assessment of communities involved
- Advocacy and sensitization programmes within target communities
- Organization of workshops and seminars for identified groups.
- Procurement and supply of 1,000 treated mosquito nets to children
- Monitoring, Supervision and Evaluation to ensure programme success.
Project Outcomes: Anticipated results achieved after the implementation of the programme include:
- Awareness and sensitization programmes organized
- 10 workshops and seminars organized for selected groups
- 1,000 treated mosquito nets supplied to needy children
- 5-member Steering Committee formed to coordinate activities of the programme
- Bond of attachment formed between DYF and communities
- Evaluation and reporting systems developed to enhance follow-up activities.
